History

In 1997, a group of forward-thinking, dedicated individuals organized to create a permanent fund to support philanthropic needs in Portage County.

With proceeds from the sale of the Greater Portage Area Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice and contributions from more than 200 community donors, The Portage Foundation was born.

Our mission is to acquire, manage, and dispense charitable assets for the benefit of Portage County citizens.

In 20 years, our assets have grown to 3.4M.   The Portage Foundation began to award grants in 2000. Since that time we have provided more than $250,000 to support 102 different programs from 82 organizations across Portage County.

We are organized as a tax exempt, public charity and are governed by a Board of Trustees comprised of energetic, professional, and talented volunteers.
