Operations Manager

The Portage Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, was created in 1997 to provide a permanent source of income to assist in meeting the needs of the community and the philanthropic needs of its donors. The Foundation is headquartered in Portage County, Ohio with assets of more than $8 million dollars.

Operations Manager, Portage Foundation, Portage County, Ohio

Key duties:  The Operations Manager works closely with the Executive Director, Accountant, and Board Treasurer to ensure proper accounting of funds received and disbursed and to ensure that proper accounting procedures are followed. The Operations Manager maintains accurate records of donations to and distributions from funds held by the Foundation. The Operations Manager also oversees the Foundation’s IT systems and permanent records.     

Key competencies:   Demonstrated success through strong communication skills, order and organization, problem-solving, information gathering, initiative, and customer service orientation.     

Education and experience:  Minimum associate degree in bookkeeping or accounting. Bachelor’s degree preferred. A minimum of five years’ experience with accounting software is strongly preferred.  High level of proficiency with Quickbooks (web-based) and MS Excel; proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Helpful Skills and experience:  Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger; experience in a nonprofit organization; thorough knowledge and understanding of GAAP; high degree of accuracy and attention to detail; strong writing and business communications skills

Work schedule:  This is a part-time, non-exempt position, averaging 20 hours per week on a variable schedule, with regular hours falling between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Must be able to work a flexible schedule as assigned, including occasional evenings and weekends. 

Job requirements:  Must hold a valid Ohio driver’s license and must pass a background check.

Outreach Manager

Outreach Manager, Portage Foundation, Portage County, Ohio

Key duties:  The Outreach Manager is responsible for coordinating the Foundation’s grants and scholarship applications and awards processes, maintaining donor records and handling gift acknowledgments, and implementing communication strategies that increase the community’s awareness of the Foundation’s services and community impact.

Key competencies:  Demonstrated success through strong communications skills, order and organization, information gathering, problem-solving, relationship building, and a customer service orientation.  

Education and experience:  Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, or related field. Education requirement may be waived based on evaluation of experience and demonstrated accomplishments. Three to five years’ experience in communications, program management, or outreach.

Helpful skills and experience:  Understanding of nonprofit sector and community needs; proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); database experience; strong writing and business communications skills; experience with leadership volunteers
