Matthew Gordon Butcher spent 22 years serving the communities of Brimfield Township and Kent as a police officer, including four years as a School Resource Officer at Kent City Schools. Known for his genuine ability to connect with people, Matt devoted countless hours to helping students and others navigate life, choices, and challenges.
Created in his memory, the Matthew G. Butcher Memorial Scholarship supports graduating Kent Roosevelt High School seniors pursuing careers as first responders or in the mental health field. The scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate leadership, community service, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Through this scholarship, Matt’s legacy of service and compassion continues—helping future first responders and mental health professionals build careers centered on caring for their communities.
