The Roger J. Di Paolo Bright Future Scholarship is an annual scholarship of $1,000 awarded to a Ravenna High School senior who lives in the Skeels or McElrath neighborhoods of Ravenna or is actively involved in the Skeels-Matthews or King-Kennedy Community Centers. The scholarship will be awarded to a student pursuing any area of study at a college, trade or technical school.
A History of Service to Portage County
Di Paolo, whose distinguished journalism career at the Record-Courier included serving as editor for over 25 years, was known for his deep knowledge of local history and patient mentoring of his staff. When corporate ownership changes eliminated his role at the paper, Di Paolo lent his talents to the nonprofit sector, with roles at the Kent Historical Society and Family and Community Services. He also returned to the newspaper industry, with service as a board member and columnist for The Portager.
