Donor Funding Options as Diverse as Our Community

When it comes to donor funding options offered through the Portage Foundation, there are many differences but one thing is constant: the impact will be felt today and well into the future.

Our assets are invested in a diversified portfolio, consisting primarily of equities, fixed income, and cash equivalents, which is conducive to participation in a rising market while allowing for adequate protection in a falling market. Our Investment & Finance Committee meets with PNC, our investment manager, on a quarterly basis to review asset allocation and performance. You can find more information in our Endowment Investment Objectives and Policy Statement which is available on our website; this document is reviewed and approved by the Investment & Finance Committee annually.

Whether you are supporting an existing fund, looking to create your own endowed fund, or looking ahead for estate planning needs, look to the Portage Foundation.

Making it Easy to Give

If you are 70 ½ and older, you can use your individual retirement account (IRA) to support your charitable giving through the Portage Foundation. This simple, tax-wise tool provides a way to take your required minimum distribution, skip the tax and make meaningful gifts to support the causes you care about.

Empower Your Charitable Legacy

You can multiply your impact by establishing a fund at the Portage Foundation to support the causes you care about through your IRA qualified charitable distribution. A designated charitable giving fund can provide support to selected organizations immediately or over time. You can also choose to make an IRA distribution to an existing nonprofit endowment at the Portage Foundation.

Maximum Your Impact While Minimizing Your Taxes.
  • Avoid taxes on transfers of up to $105,000 from your IRA to support causes you care about.
  • Satisfy some or all of your required minimum distribution for the year.
  • Reduce your taxable income, even if you do not itemize deductions.
  • Make a gift that is not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts.

Expendable DAFs for Maximum Flexibility

Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a smart and flexible way to support the causes you care about while enjoying tax benefits and simplifying your charitable giving. An expendable DAF (eDAF) allows you to direct 100% of the fund’s value to nonprofit organizations that matter to you.

  • Streamlined Giving: Take advantage of a single source for all your charitable contributions, reducing record keeping and simplifying tax preparation.
  • Tax Efficiency: Contribute to your DAF and receive an immediate tax deduction, while making grants to your chosen nonprofits on your timeline.
  • Maximize Impact: Donate appreciated assets to maximize the value of your contributions, benefiting multiple organizations over time.
  • Flexible Grants: Recommend grants starting at $100 to qualified charities, houses of worship, or other nonprofits.
  • Easy Access: Submit grant recommendations online or by mail at any time.
Compliance and Stewardship

We handle the research and ensure all grants meet IRS requirements, so you can focus on making an impact.

Plan for the Future

Choose to create your DAF as either an expendable or endowed fund. You can even designate successor advisors to continue your charitable legacy when you are no longer able to recommend grants.

Ready to make giving easier and more impactful? Start your expendable Donor Advised Fund today and create lasting change for the causes you care about most!
