Frances A. Patterson Memorial Scholarship
Frances A. Patterson passed away on Aug. 2, 2017. Frances was born June 10, 1939 in Hubbard, OH to the late John and Mary (March) MacLellan. She encouraged others to share in her love for horses having participated for more than 45 years as a 4-H advisor and as a Pony Club D.C.
In remembering Frances, a friend commented, “Fran was a force of nature. When she walked into a room, it felt like the room had been empty until that moment. Like others, I hung on every word of her stories, admired her keen wisdom, endlessly giving heart, and her vibrant energy which put everyone in her wake to shame.” This friend went on to say, “Francis always raised up everyone she could. She advocated for children, animals and anyone who was in need. She wasn’t just willing to help; she was fiercely determined to help, and to bring out the best in everyone. She set the bar high sometimes, but would always give you the boost (or the kick in the pants) you needed to make it over that bar.”
Frances was active in Farm Bureau council, volunteered on local township and school committees, and was a member of the Carousal Association. To honor her memory, her dear friends created the Frances A. Patterson Memorial Scholarship which will benefit students who have been active members of an Ohio 4-H Horse Program.
