Honoring a legacy of service, leadership, and community
Doug Cowell dedicated his life to serving the Ravenna community. As Ravenna’s first African-American police officer, he spent 24 years in law enforcement and created programs that made a lasting difference—from children’s safety and crime prevention initiatives to efforts supporting seniors and young people.
Established in his memory, the Douglas Cowell Memorial Endowed Scholarship supports graduating Ravenna High School seniors who have participated in football and plan to pursue a four-year degree with an interest in law enforcement.
The scholarship carries forward Doug’s belief that strong communities are built through service, leadership, and a commitment to others—qualities he demonstrated throughout his life.
