Portage Foundation Appoints Heidi Johnson as Community Engagement Manager 

The Portage Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Heidi Johnson as the organization’s new Community Engagement Manager. In this role, she will work to advance the Foundation’s mission to foster community relationships, promote philanthropy, and impact causes in Portage County. 

Johnson brings a wealth of experience in community development and engagement, making her a strong fit for the Portage Foundation. With an extensive background working with and for various Portage County nonprofits, Ms. Johnson is poised to contribute to the Foundation’s efforts in supporting local community-focused organizations.

Heidi’s connections to our area, plus her knowledge and professional experiences will be an asset to the Portage Foundation and our constituents,” expressed Janice Simmons-Mortimer, Executive Director. 

As Community Engagement Manager, Johnson will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to engage with various stakeholders, including donors, community leaders, and nonprofit organizations. She will work collaboratively to identify opportunities for community enrichment, as well as manage the Foundation’s grantmaking and scholarship programs. 

Johnson expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating, “I am honored to join the Portage Foundation and contribute to its important work in supporting the well-being and development of our community. I look forward to building strong relationships with our partners, donors, and community members to ensure that together, we can make a meaningful impact in Portage County.” 

Since its creation over 25 years ago, the Portage Foundation’s mission has been to build a thriving and dynamic community for Portage County and the region. Over the ensuing years, the Foundation was successful in building endowments and encouraging philanthropy, growing to over $7 million under management, with over $180,000 in grants and scholarships awarded in 2023.
