This scholarship was established by Martin and Margaret Layding of Aurora, Ohio to support Portage County students who are pursuing vocational programs for higher education. One scholarship is awarded per year, with the opportunity to apply for additional funding in the second year.
Eligibility
Initial award: Be a Portage County resident who is a current graduating senior from a Portage County, Ohio public or chartered high school with a 3.0 or higher GPA and plans to attend a 2-year technical or trade skill program.
Renewal award: Previous recipients of scholarship award who maintain a 3.0 GPA within their program may complete a subsequent annual application for an additional $500 award in year 2.
Criteria
- Completion of online application during the Portage Foundation’s regular application process open from January 1 – March 1
- Submission of brief (250-500 word) essay stating why you are passionate about the program you will be pursuing, and how your completion of the program will make your future goals possible
- One letter of recommendation from current teacher/professor/professional contact
