Bernie J. Kosar Crestwood Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Bernie J. Kosar, Jr. Mr. Kosar was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and raised in suburban Boardman Township. He attended Boardman High School, where he earned Parade Magazine All-American honors as a high school senior for the 1981 season. He also gained recognition as a baseball player, most notably for his pitching skills. Mr. Kosar played collegiately as a quarterback for the University of Miami – leading the team to a National Championship in 1983. Mr. Kosar played professionally in the National Football League (NFL) for the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, and Miami Dolphins. Mr. Kosar won a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys in 1994 when the Cowboys beat the Buffalo Bills.

Mr. Kosar, maintains his interest in N.E. Ohio, specifically in assisting students as the work to achieve their academic goals. Mr. Kosar is particularly interested in students at Crestwood High School and his scholarship will benefit a student graduating from Crestwood High School.

Criteria

The applicant must be a graduating senior from Crestwood High School. The applicant must be enrolled in a two-year or four-year degree program at an accredited college, university or technical school to receive the scholarship award. The applicant must submit an essay (not to exceed 500 words) describing how they demonstrate any or all of the following characteristics in their life: leadership, strength, compassion, mentoring, community involvement and volunteerism. The applicant should also answer the question, “Why should we choose you for this scholarship?”
