The Portage Foundation awards scholarships from a number of endowed funds supported by the generosity of community members

All high school scholarship applications open January 1st.
Our Scholarship Process
The Portage Foundation is honored to award over $40,000 in scholarships annually. We offer awards for students ranging from high school seniors to doctoral level candidates, and our scholarships support both academic and trades-related career paths. Applications are accepted January 1st to March 1st each year. All applications will be reviewed by the Foundation’s Grants and Scholarships Committee, which includes members of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and other community members.

Frances A. Patterson Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a Portage County High School senior student active in an Ohio 4-H Horse Program. The number of scholarships vary. The approximate annual scholarship award is: $200.

Awarded to high school senior students who were members of their high school bowling team. The scholarship is open to students at Rootstown, Crestwood, Garfield, Ravenna, Southeast, Streetsboro, and Theodore Roosevelt high schools. The number of scholarships vary. The approximate annual scholarship award is: $500.

Awarded to student(s) who will be enrolled in a two year technical school or a four year undergraduate college program in the study of production agriculture or farm management. Applicants will be either high school seniors from Ohio or Leeds, ND, or already in college. Current recipients can reapply for the scholarship the following year. The number of scholarships vary. The approximate annual scholarship award is: $1,000.

Awarded to a student who is currently or will be enrolled in a Veterinary Technology program at a two year technical school/ four year undergraduate college , or pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Applicants will be either high school seniors or already in college. Current recipients can reapply for the scholarship the following year. The number of scholarships vary. The approximate annual scholarship award is: $2,500.

Awarded to a female Kent-Roosevelt High School senior student interested in science, technology, engineering, or math. The number of scholarships vary. The approximate annual scholarship award is: $1,000.

Douglas Cowell Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a Ravenna High School senior student who is an active member of the football team. The number of scholarships vary. The approximate annual scholarship award is: $1,000.

Awarded annually to a Ravenna High School senior who lives in the Skeels or McElrath neighborhoods of Ravenna or is actively involved in the Skeels-Matthews or King-Kennedy Community Centers. The scholarship is for $1,000 paid to a college, university, technical or trade school.

League of Women Voters – Helen Dix Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a non-traditional female student – age 25+, US citizen, and currently enrolled at Hiram College or Kent State University with at least junior class standing. The number of scholarships vary. The approximate annual scholarship award is: $1,000.

Awarded annually to a Kent State University student in any year of study who has an interest in writing poetry and recommended by the Wick Center. The scholarship is for $1,000 will be paid directly to Kent State University and is not renewable.
